      I agree these details should come naturally while a character comes into his or her own, either on the page or in the writer’s head. However, sorting out these aspects can be quite helpful when one gets stuck. Free-writing a character’s morning routine, for example, can often jump-start a new idea on where the story needs to go next.

  3. I only just recently started writing my first novel…well, not so recent since I’m 2 chapters away from the end and I started this over a year ago. I used to write shorts, so characters weren’t something I delved in too deep. As I started writing my novel, I just wrote. I have the back story, I have the path it’s taking. But the whole character sheets…well, I haven’t done those yet. I’m still learning. And right now I am focusing on finishing before I go back and get into the nitty gritty, since I’m not one to complete a hard and scary task! πŸ™‚ Thanks for this, I’ve made a copy and saved it for later. πŸ™‚
