The Great British Bake Off + The Man Booker Prize

What a good evening yesterday for TV! First off was the final of the GBBO- it was down to John, Brendan and James, 3 brilliant bakers and wanted all three of them to win. James with his risk taking, Brendan with his detail and John with his creativity.

I learnt lots during the series (as I am a baker, lots of yummy cakes and biccys mainly) but it has inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and bake other creations! From pies, bread, fondant fancies to turkish delight! They showed you how to make it all. The talent though- especially with the gingerbread structures were amazing.

Then half an hour later the Man Booker prize was live on the BBC news- now I wasn’t just following it because my partners surname is Booker 😛 but its to celebrate and recognise the finest in literature, the fiction novel at its best.  I thought Umbrella by Will Self would win but alas it was Hilary Mantel for the 2nd time with Bringing up the Bodies. Both books are now on my to-read list!

Hilary’s speech was warming and funny with the whole “You wait 20 years and two come along at once”

Who did you want to win for both GBBO and Man Booker 2012?
